Lenzing PROFILEN® PTFE yarns and PTFE filaments in sealing technology

The perfect solution for every application

For more than 40 years, Lenzing has been supplying the seal packaging industry. Our portfolio is one of the broadest on the market, ranging from PTFE filament and ePTFE yarn to a wide variety of hybrid constructions and impregnated yarns. We are the only supplier specializing in PTFE yarns. Our know-how as well as the premise to continuously develop our products distinguish us.

Individual PTFE solutions for sealing technology

With our mature technology and our own research and development center, we have the opportunity to constantly optimize our products, tinker with individual solutions, and thus also serve niches. The gasket packing industry is incredibly diverse – just like Lenzing PROFILEN® PTFE. Our PTFE filaments and PTFE yarns can be used in almost all areas – even when the highest sensitivity is required, as in the food industry.

PTFE - an all-rounder

With Lenzing PROFILEN® PTFE we have developed a robust, durable and at the same time versatile material. Particularly relevant for sealing technology is its high chemical resistance: our PTFE yarns can be used at ph values from 0 to 14. They are also non-flammable and withstand temperature peaks of up to 300 °C. Added to this is the good dimensional stability. Moreover, Lenzing PROFILEN® PTFE can be combined with graphite or high-performance yarns to create materials with specific properties.

PTFE products at a glance

Lenzing PROFILEN® PTFE filament

PTFE filament yarns allow the production of compact packings with excellent tightness. Unlike ePTFE, PTFE exhibits higher resistance to pressure and extrusion. Other exceptional properties include good dimensional stability, high chemical resistance and the fact that our PTFE filament yarn is self-lubricating. Special grades are even suitable for oxygen applications.

Lenzing PROFILEN® ePTFE yarns

Expanded PTFE yarns (in short: ePTFE yarns) allow the production of softer packings with higher tightness as well as higher shaft speed than classical PTFE. They also allow flexible applications. For example, graphite and talc can be added to influence thermal conductivity. ePTFE yarns are also used in the food industry and other critical applications.

Lenzing PROFILEN® hybrid yarns

Hybrid yarns combine the unique advantages of PTFE with the strength and stability of other high-performance yarns. Our range includes white as well as graphitized PTFE yarns, optionally reinforced with high-strength P-aramid yarns, PPS, basalt or a special yarn of your choice. Here, too, flexibility is our strength.

Impregnated yarns

To complete our broad portfolio, we impregnate various high-performance yarns with PTFE dispersion, making them even more robust. Finally, the yarns are delivered “ready for braiding”. We currently offer three product families: P84® polyimide yarns, Kynol® yarns and Tencel® yarns.

Experience, competence, partnerships

Our quality standards are high – and word gets around. That’s why we are a proud member of the FSA (Fluid Sealing Association) as well as the ESA (European Sealing Association), making us part of two of the world’s leading industry organizations in sealing technology.
