Your apprenticeship as a mechanical engineering technician

No production without mechanical engineering

With the mechanical engineering technology apprenticeship, you are opting for comprehensive training and a technical profession that will enable you to pursue a career in a wide range of industries. The special thing about it is that it is a modular apprenticeship: First you complete the two-year basic metal technology module, then you specialize in the mechanical engineering technology module for one and a half years. This is why this apprenticeship is officially called Metal Technician – Mechanical Engineering Technology.

Mechanical engineering technician is a meaningful profession. Thanks to the versatile training, you will take on a wide repertoire of tasks in your daily work.

Tasks and challenges as a mechanical engineering technician:in

  • Manufacture, assembly, attaching, mounting and dismantling of components, machines, devices, equipment and constructions, based on instructions and drawings
  • Working with mechanical, pneumatic and hydraulic systems
  • Manual production of workpieces and working with drilling, milling, turning and welding machines, in compliance with safety regulations and quality standards
  • Creation of sketches and technical drawings, including with the aid of CAD programs
  • Programming and operation of computer-assisted (CNC) tooling machinery
  • Systematic searching for, containment and elimination of errors, defects and faults in components, machines and devices
  • Collecting and documenting technical data on work flows and work results

Details about the apprenticeship

Apprenticeship period: 3½ years

Vocational school: 10-week course per apprenticeship year in a block (no accommodations at the school), vocational school 1 in Attnang

Working hours: Primarily day shift or flextime (in rare cases, shift work is also possible)

Advancement opportunities: Work planning, foreman, master, managerial position in middle management or higher positions

Further training opportunities: Master craftsman’s school for mechanical engineering / operations engineering and much more
