Chemically inert, weather-resistant yarn: versatile and robust
In technical textiles – from outdoor textiles to protective clothing to filter media – the seam is usually the critical factor. If the seam doesn’t hold, the best fabric is no use. To ensure maximum durability and safety, we have developed Lenzing PROFILEN® PTFE sewing thread. The UV- and weather-resistant yarn withstands temperatures up to 280 °C, is resistant to chemicals and thus the best choice for critical applications.
The biggest advantages of PTFE sewing thread
PTFE is a high-performance material that stands out for its exceptional durability. Particularly important: PTFE is chemically inert and reacts only to a small extent with potential reaction partners such as air and water. The material also owes its high UV and weathering resistance to this property. PTFE sewing thread has long since proven itself outdoors. PTFE is also non-flammable and resistant to heat and cold – the temperature window for continuous use is between -200 °C and + 280 °C. The sewing thread can even withstand peaks of up to + 300 °C. In short: No weakening of strength is to be expected with this sewing thread, even in critical applications.

PTFE sewing thread for awning fabric and outdoor textiles
The manufacture of outdoor textiles such as awnings, umbrellas, sun sails & Co. requires materials that defy the forces of nature. While other materials quickly lose their strength and tear resistance when exposed to UV radiation, Lenzing PROFILEN® PTFE has proven itself even under the Australian sun. PTFE can be used to produce a UV-stable, weather-resistant yarn that neither rots nor erodes. PTFE is also resistant to microorganisms, pests, salt and bird droppings – making it the fabric of choice for sails and awnings.
PTFE sewing thread for making up filter media
The classic weak point of any made-up filter media is the seam. This risk can be significantly reduced by using PTFE sewing thread. Lenzing PROFILEN® PTFE is chemically inert, resistant to heat and cold and, with a Limited Oxygen Index (LOI) of more than 95 %, non-flammable. Another plus: simplified stock-keeping, because our PTFE yarn is suitable for all high-performance filter media.

The seam of a product stands for quality and reliability. With PTFE sewing thread for outdoor applications and filter media you make a choice in terms of durability and safety. Lenzing PROFILEN® PTFE has virtually no weaknesses. If there are any weak points in end products such as in awnings, it is the seam.
To compensate for this shortcoming, we recommend the use of PTFE sewing thread: 100% UV-resistant, durable and safe. Speaking of safety: Lenzing PROFILEN® PTFE is non-flammable, resistant to external influences and thus meets the highest safety requirements.
