ARTIFICIAL TURF UV-STABILITY
UV-Stability
The lack of sunlight most of the year inhibits the growth of natural grass in scandinavian countries. Too much sunlight, hot and dry climate, make the growing of good natural grass very difficult in southern countries. Artificial turf is the solution – but the durability of artificial turf depends mainly on the resistance of the yarn against ultraviolet rays.
Due to outdoor exposure the mechanical properties of the yarn deteriorate without any other impact. Therefore our company only cooperates with the most experienced suppliers of stabilizer additives and color pigments. Thereby artificial turf made out of LenzingGrass can be used for numerous years even in places with glistening sunlight such as Australia or the Arabian Peninsular.

The surface radiation, i.e. the sunlight that reaches the ground, depends not only on the geographic latitude, but also on average cloudiness and atmospheric humidity. Take a look at the following map, to see the different levels of average sunlight radiation on our planet, measured in kLangley/year:

Tensile Strength
The real UV-resistance of LenzingGrass is constantly tested with a Weather-O-Meter equipment for at least 13000 hours according to the EN ISO 4892-2 / former DIN-53387-1B (turning mode) standard. After this exposure period the remaining tenacity of the yarn achieved 66 % of the original tensile strength. This result is equal to a UV-stability of 10 years in an area with an annual UV-radiation of 100 kly.

Light- and Weather Fastness
Not only strength reduction of the pile yarn determines the lifetime of artificial turf. In addition to the highest UV-stability clients require intensive and enduring colors, which mustn’t fade out. For this reason all pigments we use for our LenzingGrass yarn products meet value 8 on the blue scale (1-8) according to DIN 54004 and value 5 on the grey scale (1-5) according to DIN 54001.
